Rödl & Partner advises US investor group on the acquisition of the Bicycle Composites division from Munich Composites

​​​​​​Stu​ttgart​25.4.2024: Rödl & Partner provided legal and tax advice to a group of US investors on the acquisition of the Bicycle Composites division of Munich Composites GmbH. 


According to the company's own statement, Munich Composites has in the past produced more than 10,000 rims per year. The buyer group, which calls itself Munich Composites SC, will relocate the production facilities from Germany to Landrum, South Carolina/USA and intends to triple the capacity there.

During the transaction, the US investor group was supported by an interdisciplinary team of advisors from Rödl & Partner in legal and tax matters. Partner Kai Graf von der Recke was responsible for the overall project management.​
 

About the US investor group​

The group of US investors was led by Boyd Johnson and Tony Karklins. Boyd Johnson is co-founder of the bicycle brand Boyd Cycling and co-owner of Olive Manufacturing Group, which produces aluminum rims in the USA. Tony Karklins is co-owner and CEO of the Cardinal Cycling Group, which includes Time Bicycles and Detroit Bikes.

Founded in 2011 as a spin-off of the Technical University of Munich, Munich Composites claims to be the technology leader in various automated processes for the production of composite components. The range of services extends from the development and production of prototypes to the series production of CFRP components.
