World Cultural Heritage group from Barcelona perform in Nuremberg: Castellers build human towers at Rödl & Partner

  • Co-operation agreed with the UNESCO immaterial world cultural heritage group

Nuremberg, 26.05.2011: Today Nuremberg will experience a world cultural heritage at first hand with the Catalonian tower builders, the so-called Castellers, who build human towers higher than 10 metres with up to 6 levels. A total of 100 representatives of the Castellers de Barcelona have arrived from Spain and will present their tradition in front of 1,000 participants of the forum Going Global from Rödl & Partner. The performance of the Castellers is a première for Bavaria.

Rödl & Partner has agreed on an exclusive co-operation with the Castellers de Barcelona which will be officially sealed today. In future, Rödl & Partner will use the human towers to visualize the corporate culture of the company. The 200 year-old tradition of the Castellers embodies team spirit, trust, courage and tradition – the core values of the corporate culture of Rödl & Partner.

"For over thirty years our fundamental values have stated that humans are the focus of our activities and that we as a professional service firm can grow using our own resources. Last year the Castellers were added to the representative list of the UNESCO immaterial world cultural heritage. The erection of human towers has a long tradition in Catalonia. It embodies a philosophy of team spirit, courage and balance. Each Casteller group includes a number of generations. In Nuremberg there will also be two participating families. The youngest member is six years old and the oldest 60. The Castellers de Barcelona which Rödl & Partner co-operates with is the oldest group with over 2,000 members who have mostly been involved for generations. And this purely as a private commitment. The members come from many professions including teachers, company employees, bank directors, painters, architects, nurses and also professional groups associated with Rödl such as lawyers, tax consultants and judges. A doctor has even closed his surgery so that he can participate today.

"It gives us pleasure to be able to present the great tradition of the Castellers for the first time in Bavaria", emphasises the president of the Castellers de Barcelona, Toni Mañane. "The building of Castells is a contest between villages and towns, but above all it is a collaboration where it doesn't matter how old you are, what colour your skin is or whether you are a man or a woman. The building of human towers is an integrative and binding activity in our society with humans of different cultures where each can find his place. All join together for one objective: to build the highest Castells. To be able to do this, we need children to climb the high Castell levels and persons below to give the structure stability. Due to these reasons, six months ago our values were recognised by UNESCO as an immaterial cultural heritage of the human race."

The co-operation with the Castellers de Barcelona represents a milestone for the development of the "Rödl & Partner" brand.
