Rödl & Partner advised Equitix on the acquisition of the geothermal plant in Traunreut

Munich, 21 February 2022: Rödl & Partner advised Equitix Infrastructure Investments Limited (Equitix), a London-based investor focused on infrastructure projects, on the acquisition of the geothermal plant in Traunreut from Grünwald Equity. This acquisition adds to Equitix' growing portfolio of assets with positive environmental characteristics and their goals as sustainable investors. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

Deep-geothermal energy is considered a particularly suitable technology for energy transition, as electricity and heat can be generated CO₂-free, base-load capable and around the clock.

Two deep boreholes drilled to a depth of more than 4 km each in 2013 will produce electricity and supply energy for the local district heating network. The project saves about 20,000 t of CO₂ annually. Since commissioning in 2014 (district heating) and 2016 (electricity), there have been no harmful environmental impacts.

Equitix was advised on commercial, legal and tax aspects of the deal by an interdisciplinary Rödl & Partner team specializing in renewable energies and transactions led by Benjamin Richter and Mario Schulz.
