Financial Modeling Basics

In the Financial Modeling Basics workshop, participants learn how to create an integrated financial plan in Excel step by step. Based on a practical case study, they develop a model that links the P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statement. The focus is on the fundamentals of professional financial modeling techniques, the business interrelationships of integrated corporate planning, and their direct implementation in Excel.

  • Introduction to financial modeling
  • Conception and development of financial models
  • 10 golden rules of financial modeling
  • Operational value drivers: creating an integrated corporate planning (balance Sheet, P&L, cash flow)
  • Special modules on business administration topics (working capital, net debt, etc.)

M&A Modeling

Step by step, participants develop a comprehensive model for analyzing a corporate acquisition based on a case study. The focus is on business valuation, purchase price allocation, financing, and post-deal accounting, as well as practical implementation in a financial model in MS Excel.

  • Business valuation: discounted cash flow method and multiple method
  • Reconciliating enterprise value to purchase price while considering net debt components
  • Integrated simulation: alternatives for purchase price financing
  • Post-deal accounting: derivation of goodwill and presentation of initial consolidation after corporate acquisition

Impairment Modeling

Participants develop an impairment test according to IAS 36 based on a case study step by step. The focus is on the relevant accounting regulations and their practical implementation in a financial model in MS Excel.
