Your Questions About Global Mobility Payroll. Our Answers.
Why is shadow billing important for international employee assignments?
When an employee is assigned to work internationally, tax, reporting, or social security obligations may arise in the host country, even though the salary continues to be paid in the home country. Shadow payroll tracks the compensation data relevant to the host country and enables the legally required calculation, reporting, and payment of the applicable taxes and contributions there. It is therefore an essential tool for meeting local compliance requirements.
When do companies need split payroll?
Split payroll is required when an employee’s compensation is distributed across multiple countries, companies, or payment streams. This may be the case, for example, with executives, expats, or employees engaged in cross-border activities. The goal is to accurately reflect tax and social security requirements in the respective countries while creating a transparent compensation structure.
What compliance risks are associated with cross-border payroll processing?
Among the most common risks are incorrect tax calculations, failure to meet reporting requirements, incorrect social security classifications, or noncompliance with local labor laws. Especially when it comes to international employee assignments, even minor errors can have significant financial or legal consequences.
