SOCSO (Social Security Organization): 24/7 Social Security Scheme

bill was approved by the Malaysian Parliament on 2 December 2025. Under the bill, SOCSO introduces a new 24/7 social security scheme (Skim Kemalangan Bencana Bukan Pekerjaan (Lindung 24 Jam) that provides round-the-clock coverage of non-employment injury for employees.
Currently, the scheme only covers accidents or diseases arising out of and in the course of employment, generally limited to working hours and commutes between home and the workplace.
SOCSO has recently announced the scheme will be enforced effective June 2026.
The contributions will be fully borne by employees, with the following rates to be implemented in phases:
- 0,75 % for the first two years (Phase 1)
- 1.0 % for the following three years (Phase 2)
- 1.25 % from the sixth year onwards (Phase 3)
The contributions are mandatory and employers are required to make the payments on behalf of their employees for as long as they remain in employment with them.
