Rödl & Partner advises Hengerda on takeover of business operation of SMS Maschinenbau

Rödl & Partner advised Hengerda on legal and tax aspects with an international expert team. Jiawei Wang, head of the Rödl & Partner China Desk, took over the overall project management. Thomas Fräbel was responsible for the transaction legal advisory. Han Zhang, Director of Huatai United Securities Beijing Office is buyside financial advisor for Hengerda.

Hengerda New Materials was founded in 1995 and successfully listed on ChiNext of Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 2021. The company is mainly engaged in the development, production, sales and service of metal cutting tools and machine tools. The company achieved an annual turnover of over EUR 70 million in 2024 and employs more than 800 people.

SMS specializes in the development and manufacture of machine tools for the precision machining of threaded workpieces, gears and tools. The range of services in special machine construction includes new machines and retrofits, i.e. the modernization and retrofitting of existing systems, as well as the after-sales business. The company operates internationally and supplies German customers as well as the European and Asian markets.
