In October 2025, Thailand and the United States of America agreed on a „Framework for Reciprocal Trade“.

The Parties generally agreed on the following terms:

  • Thailand will lift tariffs on almost all goods imported from the US, notably including agricultural and food imports.
  • The US will keep the so-called “reciprocal” tariffs at a rate of 19 % on goods imported from Thailand; however, certain imports covered by executive order 14346 dated 5 September 2025 are eligible to a 0 % rate.
  • Thailand will eliminate non-tariff trade barriers such as accepting US vehicle safety and emissions standards for imports of vehicles and accepting US FDA certificates and market authorizations for medical devices and pharmaceuticals, as well as accepting US food safety standards for meat and poultry products, amongst others.
  • Another notable elimination of the non-tariff trade barriers is hat Thailand shall remove the penalty reward system for breaches of Thai customs regulations. Furthermore, customs regulation shall be re-worked and simplified.
  • Thailand also committed to permit easy access for US digital services on the Thai market, including not imposing digital services taxes or discriminate against US digital service providers.

While most of the provisions will mainly benefit US investors and imports, especially the elimination of the penalty reward system and re-work of customs regulation should be beneficial to all importers, pending review of the details.
