Maharashtra is the economic center of India. The state capital Mumbai is also India's financial capital. Pune, the second largest city in Maharashtra, is one of the largest industrial and service locations in India. In addition to a strong concentration of the automotive industry (TATA, Mahindra, VW, Daimler), numerous machine builders, IT and other service companies have also settled in Pune. Almost 800 German companies - this corresponds to approximately 50% of the total German investment in India - have settled in Maharashtra.

Rödl & Partner is present with own offices in Pune and Mumbai. At these locations, a total of over 100 colleagues are available to advise companies mainly from Germany and German-speaking countries on all aspects related to their India business. In cooperation with the  Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC) and the Indo French Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IFCCI), Rödl & Partner has prepared an extensive white paper for the state government of Maharashtra.

This white paper contains numerous suggestions for legal and tax changes to ensure the ability of German and French companies in India to smoothly restart the business in the reopening phase after the corona-related lock-down. Numerous proposals for changes in the area of Indian labor law, trade union law, tax law and other industry-relevant legal areas such as energy supply law, goods transport law, etc. were addressed to the state government. Both chambers of commerce had previously carried out a comprehensive survey amongst its members, which was conceptualized by Rödl & Partner. The white paper was presented to the state government on June 2, 2020 together with the consul general of Germany and consul general of France, the two chambers of commerce and Rödl & Partner, represented by Rahul Oza (partner).

This project was carried out by our teams in Mumbai and Pune.
