The shipping department in the company is usually the last link in the processing of the delivery of goods. At the latest at this point in the process there may be problems in connection with the customs regulations and export control law. It is, however, often too late if the problem is only recognised at this late point in time. This point in the process is certainly suitable as an inspection point before the goods are delivered, i.e. while the goods are still in your control, in order to carry out the final inspection, but in fact practical process integration has to start much earlier in the process.

In this process step the previously determined legal requirements for export control law are considered and transferred to the official process. Therefore this stage requires employees to possess extensive technical expertise to be able to manage the challenges listed below.

The following is an overview of the most important challenges which need to be taken into consideration in relation to the shipping department:

  • Customs: Export clearance requires the submission of declarations from a number of legal areas
  • Export control: Different forms of authorisation require different export procedures with documentation and reporting obligations
  • Preferences: Preference advice for different preference areas is required as the destination country is often unknown
  • Procedural master data: Different documents (export declaration, Intrastat, preference statements, etc.) require the availability of all the master data
