Izmir

Izmir is located on the Turkish coast of the Aegean Sea and is, with its approximately 3.5 million inhabitants, Turkey‘s third-largest city. Founded as early as 3000 B.C., it is one of the oldest cities in the world. Izmir is also home to the second-largest port in Turkey after Istanbul. The city exports mainly metals, textiles, passenger cars, tobacco, wool and foodstuffs (e.g. figs, grapes, olives and olive oil). However, the city‘s most important economic sector is the export of petroleum products and chemicals.
